Mr. Saller, you close by saying a little donated here and a little there is what Switzerland calls neutrality. Good line. Now finish it.
You put Itau, Santander and Bradesco in one room with a sitting senator who may be the next president of Brazil, and you named no rule at all.
Swiss law names it. Under the Anti-Money Laundering Act and the FINMA ordinance, a business relationship with a foreign politically exposed person is high-risk by law. Senior management signs it off. Enhanced due diligence, documented source of funds, no exceptions for a good dinner.
You wrote the room and left out the rule.
And last October, on this site, you wrote that the villain no longer sits in Brussels but in Washington. That belonged above this column, not behind it.

Ref Part 1. Mr. Kayath ran Credit Suisse investment banking in Brazil and Latin American equities for two decades. Here is what that name carries.
Mozambique, October 2021. About USD 475 MM to US and UK authorities, and a Credit Suisse unit pleading guilty in New York.
February 2022. More than 18,000 accounts in the open, heads of state among the holders.
Bellinzona, June 2022. The first criminal conviction of a major Swiss bank in Swiss history.
Now the honest half. That conviction was overturned on appeal in November 2024, because the banker had died and her presumption of innocence barred examination. The federal prosecutor took it to the Supreme Court in March 2025.
Stupidity is a choice. Some in this trade have not learned one cent from that file.

Ref Parts 1 and 2. On 30 July 2025 Treasury designated a sitting justice of Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court under Executive Order 13818, Global Magnitsky. His wife and a legal institute followed, and the President signed Executive Order 14323 that day.
Both camps carry a file. Lula da Silva was convicted in 2017 and 2019 for corruption and money laundering, served 580 days, and saw them annulled on jurisdiction and judicial bias, never retried on the merits. Jair Bolsonaro was convicted in 2025 and sits in prison.
After Economic D-Day a politically exposed file is not a niche. It is correspondent exposure.

Miss Adler
Can you please help me understand why the US has chosen not to participate in the AEI that seems to be imposed on everybody else?
Thank you
